The Hanamaki Festival is held in September in Hanamaki City, Iwate Prefecture, and is a traditional festival with over 430 years of history. It is organized by the Hanamaki Festival Executive Committee and takes place mainly around the festival plaza in Hanamaki City and the Kamimachi arcade area. With a long history spanning more than 430 years, this festival is an important event that carries on the culture inherited by the Hanamaki region since ancient times. Highlights include the flame-lit furyu dashi floats and the valiant mikoshi (portable shrines), whose number once set a world record. A variety of folk performing arts are presented, including the shishi odori (deer dance) and kagura gongen mai passed down since ancient times, as well as the graceful Hanamaki bayashi odori dance, and Hanamaki's traditional culture blooms throughout the city.

Getting there

About 15 minutes on foot from JR Hanamaki Station. There is a temporary parking lot.
