The Doburoku Festival, held at Gozaishi Shrine in Honmachi, Chino City, Nagano Prefecture, is a traditional festival designated as an intangible cultural property of Chino City. Every year, doburoku (unrefined sake) brewed in a storehouse within the shrine grounds is served to visitors. The festival's origins date back to the Kamakura period, and each year the main role is played by a shrine parishioner chosen as the 'doburoku duty' person, a position that rotates among districts. The parishioner selected for this duty spends about one month brewing doburoku in the storehouse within the shrine grounds, producing approximately 1,600 liters per year. On the day of the festival, the freshly made doburoku is served, and events are held within the shrine grounds.
