At Arashiyama, a famous spot for autumn leaves, the Arashiyama Momiji Festival is held on the second Sunday of November each year along the upper reaches of the Togetsukyo Bridge area, celebrating the beauty of the autumn foliage on Mt. Ogura, which is also sung about in the Hyakunin Isshu. Viewing is free, and paid seating is also available. This festival honors the beauty of Mt. Ogura's autumn leaves, cherished since ancient times, and is held as an event that colors Arashiyama's autumn. On the Oi River at the venue, beautifully decorated boats proceed one after another, including boats associated with temples and shrines of Saga-Arashiyama such as the Tenryuji boat, as well as imayo boats and Heian kangen boats, recreating an elegant Heian picture scroll on the river surface. The event runs from 10:00 to 15:00 and is canceled in case of rain.
