The Tuina Festival (Tuina-sai) is held at Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine every year on January 7 from 7:00 p.m. as one of the annual events, a Setsubun ritual passed down since ancient times. On the day, rituals such as the Uso-kai (exchanging wooden carved wagtails) and the Oni-sube Ritual are performed, and worshippers pray for good health and protection from misfortune. The Uso-kai is especially known as a unique custom in which people exchange wooden carved wagtails to turn the previous year's wrongdoings into "untruths" and make the new year a good one.
