Tokogyo is a memorial service held every April at Tokoan in Shimonoseki, Yamaguchi Prefecture, to remember the late Edo-period patriot Takasugi Shinsaku. It is held on the anniversary of his death, and local people connected to the site as well as those who admire Takasugi gather to honor his achievements. On the day, flowers are offered and sutras are chanted at Tokoan, and in a quiet atmosphere participants remember Takasugi's virtues. Exhibitions of items associated with Takasugi are also held, making it an opportunity that history fans should not miss.
