The Taga Matsuri is held at Taga Taisha in Taga, Shiga Prefecture, every year on April 22. It is the shrine's largest ancient rite, a solemn ceremony held according to ancient custom as an agricultural rite praying for a good harvest of the five grains. The highlight of the day is the procession of as many as 500 participants in gorgeous costumes and formations reminiscent of a Kamakura-period picture scroll. The majestic ritual and the colorful dedicatory events adorn the shrine grounds, and it is known as one of the largest spring festivals among Taga Taisha's annual events.
Getting there
About 10 minutes on foot from Taga Taisha-mae Station on the Ohmi Railway. By car, about 20 minutes from the Hikone Interchange on the Meishin Expressway.
