Soma Nomaoi is a festival held over three days in the Soma region of Fukushima Prefecture and is designated an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property of Japan. About 400 mounted warriors, clad in armor and bearing swords, unfurl heirloom battle flags in the wind, presenting a majestic and splendid historical pageant.
Getting there
By train, Joban Line Haranomachi Station is the nearest station (about 3 hours 30 minutes from the Tokyo area, about 1 hour 30 minutes from the Sendai area). By car, about 10 to 15 minutes from the Joban Expressway Minamisoma Interchange to the Hibaragahara festival grounds. During the main festival, a shuttle bus runs from Haranomachi Station.
