The Senzaki Gion Festival is a traditional festival held over one week in late July each year, centered on Yasaka Shrine (Gion Shrine) in Senzaki, Nagato City, Yamaguchi Prefecture. Organized by the Senzaki-dori Town Council, it has a history dating back to the Edo period at a shrine in an area that once flourished as a base for fishing and commerce. On the first and last days, mikoshi (portable shrines) and yamaboko (festival floats) appear; the mikoshi is moved from Yasaka Shrine to Suzaki Shrine (commonly known as Old Gion) at the northern end, and returns to Yasaka Shrine on the final day. On the floats, local children perform the Kodomo Maiko dance, and a fair is held in the shrine grounds, adding color to the local summer.
