At Izawa-no-miya, a detached shrine of the Inner Shrine of Ise Jingu in Shima, Mie Prefecture, the Otaue-matsuri (rice-planting festival) is held every year on June 24. The venue is the goryo-den (sacred paddy field) adjacent to the shrine, and it is known as one of Japan's three great rice-planting festivals. This Shinto ritual, under the name "Isobe no Go-shinden," is registered as a nationally important intangible folk cultural property, and it is a traditional event with a long history performed on the day of the June monthly festival. In the elegant rice-planting ceremony, Shinto priests enter the sacred paddy field and perform rituals praying for a bountiful rice harvest. Visitors can witness this valuable rice-planting ritual, which has value as a designated cultural property.

Getting there

3 minutes on foot from Kintetsu "Kaminogo Station." By car, via Ise Expressway - Ise-Toba-Futami Line - Daini Ise Road, about 10 minutes from Toba-Minami/Shiraki IC toward Shima. Parking is available at Isobe Fureai Park, the former Fujimoto Denki site parking lot, and the former Isobe Town Hall parking lot.
