Ueno Tenjin Matsuri is an autumn festival held at Ueno Tenjin-gu (Sugawara Shrine) in Iga, Mie Prefecture, and is a traditional event that has continued since the Edo period. In the Shinkosai procession, an oni (demon) procession and a parade of yamaboko (festival floats) known here as danjiri follow the mikoshi (portable shrine) as its attendant train. The oni procession comes from the towns along Sannomachi-dori, and the danjiri floats come from the towns along Honmachi-dori and Ninomachi-dori. It was designated a nationally important intangible folk cultural property in 2002 and inscribed on the UNESCO intangible cultural heritage list in 2016.
