At Omori Shrine in Ogawa, Ikuyu-cho, Kumano City, Mie Prefecture, the annual grand festival 'Doburoku Matsuri' is held every year on November 23. At this festival, doburoku brewed for the grand festival is used in the Shinto ritual. On the day, after the ritual from 10:00, the doburoku used in the ritual is offered to worshippers from 12:00. In the shrine grounds surrounded by cedar trees and clear streams, the aroma of doburoku being shared drifts, inviting worshippers into a pleasantly tipsy moment. In the afternoon, entertainment is held, and from 14:30 mochihori (rice cake digging) takes place. Through the once-a-year grand festival, the local event surrounding doburoku continues to be passed down.
Getting there
From Kumano city center, about 10 km south on National Route 311, about 15 minutes by car. From Kumano City Station, take the Kumano City self-operated bus 'Ikuyu Line' to 'Ogawa' bus stop, then about 10 minutes on foot.
