Rooms around Odate, Akita fill up while the festival is on.

A New Year event held in Odate, Akita Prefecture, on a street known as Omachi Hachiko-dori, which is turned into a pedestrian zone. It draws crowds of people buying lucky candy. Events include the Shirahige Daijin procession, in which Shirahige Daijin and attendants such as Okou walk through the area, an Akita dog parade, and folk song performances.

Getting there

About 8 minutes by route bus from Odate Station on the JR Ou Line, or about 5 minutes on foot from Higashi-Odate Station on the JR Hanawa Line. Because the street becomes a pedestrian zone on the day, the Omachi Hachiko-dori bus stop cannot be used; a paid shuttle bus runs from Odate Station to the event entrance.
