The Aboshi Festival is held on October 21 and 22 at Ushibuki Hachiman Shrine in the Aboshi district of Himeji, Hyogo Prefecture. It is the shrine's autumn reisai (annual autumn festival) and is also called the Chochin Festival. It is a large-scale festival with the largest parishioner base in the Harima region, covering 24 towns and over ten thousand households. The highlight of the eve-of-festival yoiyama is the chochin-neri (lantern procession), in which lines of lantern light sway in the darkness, and in front of the tower gate, a fierce neri in which lanterns are struck against one another unfolds. From around 1:00 p.m. on the main festival day, 18 yatai (festival carts) enter the shrine grounds, and in front of the tower gate, the main hall, and the worship hall, they perform a brave neraiwase to the call of "Chosa."
