The Chida Festival is held every year on October 14 at Susa Shrine in Arida, Wakayama Prefecture, and is known as a rough festival in which participants scramble for sea bream offered before the deity. The venue, Susa Shrine, is located in Chida, Arida, and the festival held here is a local traditional event. At the center of the festival, participants compete to grab six sea bream, and it is said that whoever takes a sea bream will enjoy a bountiful catch for a year. This fierce contest, embodying the prayers of people involved in fishing for a good catch, is the main highlight of the Chida Festival.

Getting there

Public transport: about 15 minutes by taxi from Minoshima Station on the JR Kisei Main Line. Or about 20 minutes on foot from Aridagawa Station on the Arida Railway. By car: about 10 minutes from Arida IC on the Hanwa Expressway. Temporary parking is available nearby.
